Palestine Red
Crescent Society
GUEST SPEAKER:
(Just returned from the war zone)
Since March 29th , the Palestinian people have been living under siege and curfew. The Palestine Red Crescent (member of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies) has consistently been denied permission by the Israeli Occupation Forces to access towns and cities in order to provide critical emergency medical and burial services to this civilian population.
The chief representative for the International Committee of the Red Cross in Israel and the Palestinian areas has lambasted the Israeli army’s behaviour toward medical teams in the territories. Rene Kosirnik said on Monday he felt “betrayed” by the Israeli army’s actions, and that the army had “wantonly and rudely trampled” all over the Fourth Geneva Convention protocols, which expressly forbid shooting at ambulances. He mentioned the four doctors, medics and Palestinian ambulance drivers killed by IDF fire in recent weeks and another 12 who have been wounded, five of them seriously. “I was shocked and deeply hurt” said Kosirnik. “I expected much more of the IDF. Nothing justifies such behaviour.” Ha’aretz Daily
Watching from afar, many of us have been shocked by the ongoing
devastation and carnage at the hands of the Israeli Occupation Forces. Participating in the recent “End the
Occupation” rally was an important action, and now we are called to act once
again. This is our opportunity to make
a concrete difference!
